My story is full of life changing events and happenings! Independence and self-sufficiency became necessary childhood survival skills. Professionally, I enjoyed great satisfaction and success initially as a music teacher in comprehensive schools, and latterly as a senior teacher in special education.
Outwardly I was always happy to be the ‘the-buck-stops-here’ type of person. I tried to please everyone all of the time. I didn’t value myself at all. I couldn’t even recognise what my own needs were, apart from the vague hope that the more I pleased people, the more they might be nice, thoughtful and kind to me. More than one divorce and several life-threatening and life-changing illnesses later, I woke up to the fact that I had to take control and find the real me amongst all the baggage I was carrying.
A diagnosis of the pain and fatigue condition Fibromyalgia in 2002 resulted in my taking early ill-health retirement from my much-loved teaching career. Unexpectedly, this became the opportunity I needed to sort myself out personally. As I was almost totally immobile at the time, I had plenty of time to sit, think and work through lots of life issues including how I needed to be, and what I wanted to do with my life from that time on.
I graduated with distinction as a life coach with the Life Coaching Academy in 2003 and set up my business soon afterwards. Life balance and health are vital to my own wellbeing and to the lives of the people whom I work alongside as their coach. I am hot on equal opportunities, disability issues, and enabling each individual to enjoy taking responsibility for self. I have two grown up sons of whom I’m immensely proud.
I now look on life as an adventure to be met with confidence and a problem-solving mentality. I am a personal coach, writer and speaker. I love self-sufficiency gardening, Transcendental Meditation, walking, exercising using my Nintendo Wii-Fit program, Portugal, music, driving, computers, and meeting people.
I am also secretary and a volunteer watchkeeper at National Coachwatch Institution Herne Bay. The charity provides ‘eyes along the coast’ support to the search and rescue services. Have a look at http://baywatch-hernebay.blogspot.com too.
